Learn To Make Gel Candles – Floating Ornaments That Glitter

Everyone loves candles but recently gel candles have been the craze. One explanation is the possibility of designing them creatively and artistically. You can personalize them without difficulty…thereby adding an extra touch when giving them as a present. One other reason is they last longer than paraffin or wax candles since they burn at a slower rate.

When buying the wax to make gel candles be reminded that there are three different densities of gel wax available -high, medium and low. For exceptionally fragrant candles, high density gel is the best choice as the wax will embrace the fragrance better than the medium or low density wax. This means that the scent of the candle will be stronger.

Be sure to use a non-stick multi-cooker, rather than a double boiler, skillet or saucepan, when melting wax to make gel candles. This is because the multi-cooker speeds up the melting process…since gel wax is thicker than other waxes.

Do not use anything wooden for stirring the gel wax. Use something made from hard plastic or metal to minimize bubbles in the gel wax .

Pouring the gel wax into a mold can be a challenge due to the high viscosity of the gel wax…be patient and pour slowly. In addition, molding time will be longer due the consistency of the gel wax.

The thickness of the gel is one of the marvelous advantages of a gel candle because it will let you “suspend” or “float” different objects in your candle. You can also get inventive and alter the color by using bright, rich liquid dyes. With liquid dyes the transparency of the gel wax is retained. A few drops is all that you need, so be careful when adding it to your wax. You don’t want to use too much and mess up your candle.

Do not use clothing dye, childrens crayons, soap dyes or food coloring. None of these are made for candles and will cause them to burn incorrectly!

You will find that these techniques will allow you to create gel candles fast and furiously while having lots of fun!
